Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour provides structure and chewiness
  • 2 teaspoons salt enhances flavor
  • 1 tablespoon sugar helps activate yeast
  • 1 packet active dry yeast the leavening agent that makes the bread rise
Wet Ingredients
  • 1.25 cups warm water activates the yeast
Filling
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds adds crunch and nutrition

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sunflower seeds, salt, and sugar. Mix well to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water, stirring gently until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Once risen, punch down the dough to release excess air, and shape it into a loaf.
  2. Place the shaped loaf in a greased bread pan, cover, and let it rise again for about 30-40 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C), then bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Notes

Ensure your yeast is fresh and active; allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free area to speed up fermentation. For an extra crunchy crust, place a pan of water in the oven while the bread bakes. Experiment with adding herbs or spices to enhance flavor.
