  • 1 lb scallops fresh seafood is key for the best flavor
  • 2 tbsp butter for that rich, buttery taste
  • 1 clove garlic, minced adds depth of flavor
  • 1 cup heavy cream makes the sauce extra creamy
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese for the perfect golden topping
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg brings warmth to the dish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Carefully add the scallops to the skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until they begin to turn golden, then turn them over and cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream, stirring gently to combine, and allow it to bubble for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish, then sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese and a dash of nutmeg on top.
Baking
  1. Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is beautifully melted and golden brown.
  2. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

If using frozen scallops, thaw them thoroughly and pat them dry before cooking. For extra flavor, add finely chopped shallots or leeks when sautéing the garlic. Add herbs like parsley or tarragon for variation.
